Senator Rosemary McAuliffe will be holding a town hall meeting at Brier Terrace Middle on Saturday, February 23rd at 1:00 PM. I would like to encourage you to draft a letter to be sent home through kid mail, encouraging all parents to attend this town hall meeting in a show of support for the District. In showing their support, the District should encourage these parents to demand a full and objective investigation into the accusations made on the blog.
All staff should be encouraged to attend as well through an "All Edmonds" email. Afterall, no one wants to work under a cloud of suspicion or to think that their employer is not spending public money wisely. District employees deserve to take pride in the organization for which they work.
The best way to diffuse suspicion is to confront it head on. A great leader would have it no other way. Please join me in encouraging our community to attend the town hall meeting to demand a complete and objective investigation.

Right on. Power to the people and all those other things we used to say in the late 60's.
Nice idea, Mark, but I won't be holding my breath until I find such an announcement in my daughter's "kid mail" -- or even in one of the "key communicator" e-mails. Those seem to be reserved for damage control when something is about to hit the fan in the media.
I will be waiting, with great interest, for a reply from Nick on your letter encouraging him to write a letter to all parents and staff of the Edmonds School District, inviting them to the Town Hall meeting. Thank you for writing the letter to Nick; I am sure he will have to consult with Marla before making his decision!!!
It is no secret to success in any business that if you create a healthy, productive environment for your employees you will profit from this, and it must be maintained. You have to listen to your employees and you must empower them. Make them believe it is their business as well and they will take pride and very careful consideration into everything they do. The employer will benefit. There will be no pilfering, no animosity, and much success will come from word of mouth advertising. Is is simple intelligence if you take care of every important aspect of your business then it will take care of you.
In the Edmonds School District, because it is an educational organization and must reflect the philosophies of what it teaches, and is also obligated to create a healthy, productive environment almost as a default, it must be a reflection of the best of our community and that which supports it.
This District, however, does not respect that promise. Because the management currently in charge of this debacle is not hurt by poor business practices and has only seen increases in their salaries while teaching jobs are being eliminated, they have no incentive to change. Let us hope that a further investigation of management and administrative practices with regard to climate, culture and overall health be carefully examined.
Again, if the Superintendent does not take time to interview personnel and consider their perspective with a humane and social attitude looking to correct what clearly needs major adjustment, then we are on the road to failure.
We are not "on the road to failure" but rather have crashed directly into failure. "The road" for district administration is a facade designed only to cover the stage while the players steal the set, piece by piece. And you are paying for it.
Nick is not a great leader. There will be no letter to parents or staff.
Nice try, though.
Could you imagine following my leader? I guess I'd be home all day.
