Brandsma, previously the deputy superintendent, has worked in Everett Public Schools since 2001. He came to the district from Tumwater Schools where he served as director of secondary education and technology. Prior to that, he worked in the Tacoma and Peninsula school districts. His 31-year career began in the Tumwater School District where he was a teacher, football coach and department chair.
The Edmonds School Board voted Wednesday to hire Tumwater School District Superintendent Nick Brossoit as superintendent of the 21,000-student district. Brossoit, has been superintendent of the Olympia-area district of 6,000 students for the past 10 years. Before that, he was an assistant superintendent in the Burlington-Edison School District.
It does seem terribly unfortunate that the two largest school districts in Snohomish County are being "led" by forces from Tumwater. Just what is it about Tumwater that churns out these sorts of people?
Before Tumwater received its current name, it was known as Bush Prairie after the founding settler George Washington Bush.
The name was changed to Tumwater borrowing from a Chinook Jargon phrase tumtum chuck meaning "waterfall" or "rapids" (literally "heartbeat water").
From 1896-2003, Tumwater was well known regionally as the home of the Olympia Brewing Company.

Nick, the finest in stealing money from our kids. Where did marla come from?
Its time to look into our so called leaders eyes and say " get lost " these school district will lay you off soon. don't worry its ok. the district will give you a good luck letter.
I love beer. OLY! Maybe we all should buy nick and marla a beer for their tears.
Oh yes, I remember Olympia Brewery; it was the best brew around, years ago! Too bad the two people mentioned in this article didn't get jobs at the brewery; just think they could have opened up their own pubs and "screwed" their customers in Tumawater, rather than at the ESD!
I read this blog regularly for information that "official" District sources may not otherwise divulge, but I fail to see why this tidbit of info is important enough to publish. If you want to be taken seriously by the public and the District, and be a positive force for improvement, picking on Tumwater (or any other city) is silly. It's not the city's fault we're stuck with a useless superintendent!
Don't forget Debby Carter was there, too.
There are multiple Edmonds "grads" in area districts as well. And others have been looking to move out for one reason or another.
Can you repost Marla's application and qualifications for her position?
The principal at Meadowdale High is also from Tumwater and a long time friend of Nick's
